Combat Revolved

Rumour has it that Microsoft (specifically one of their internal studios, 343 Industries) are working on an Xbox 360 remake of Halo: Combat Evolved.

I won't lie, if true this is pretty exciting news. I still think the original Halo was easily the best of the bunch and while the recently released Reach came as close as any of the sequels have to recapturing the classic Halo feel, in my opinion it still wasn't quite up to snuff.

Presumably the multiplayer component of Halo CE's remake will be getting an overhaul as it's pretty dated by current standards, but I hope they leave the campaign experience as untouched as possible. I played Halo via the Xbox 360's emulation a couple of years ago and it was just as fun as ever. That said, the clunky frame rate and dated visuals were a distraction so I can definitely appreciate the need for a bit of graphical spit-and-polish.

If this is indeed in the works, then a Q4 2011 release just in time for the holiday season is my bet.
