No spring update? Or is there?......

It sounds as though the rumors we heard last week regarding the Xbox Live spring update were actually false. The site Next Generation recently interviewed Xbox Live general manager Marc Whitten and he talked about what is happening on Live this season. Although there will be no actual "spring update", there will still be some changes, most of them affecting DLC:

First of all, there will be an increase in the size limit allowed for XBLA titles from 150MB to 350MB. The limit was first increased to accommodate Castlevania, and will now be upped again to allow for titles such as the upcoming Soul Caliber
Second, Microsoft will be de-listing any titles that are over 6 months old, have a Metacritic rating of under 65 and a conversion rate below 6% (conversion rate means the amount of people who went on to buy the full game after trying the trial version). This will help clear up the Marketplace, and make it easier for consumers to find good titles without having to wade waist-deep in crap while they search.
Third, and most important, is the new tool that allows users to consolidate all of their DRM licenses onto one console so content can be accessed even if it's not the system it was originally bought on. This was the feature I was most excited about from the rumored list of updates so I'm glad it's the one thing that was actually true. It finally sounds as though we can all buy as much DLC as we want, without worrying that it will become inaccessible if we have to get a replacement console. Thank God! I just hope the tool is easy to use and works as it should - giving you (and any other profiles on your system) full access to everything as though it were purchased on the system you are currently playing on. I guess we'll find out in June, when these changes take place. Now I only have one question - who the hell made up that update list then? I guess we'll never know...........
